You might have seen a brief introduction about Classic Home throughout our website. However, I just want to recap and tidy up all the information here so that you have an understanding of who we are, what we do and our ambitions.
Classic Home was started by Kyaw Thu in 1997, by exporting basic rattan accessories such as placemats, under-plates, baskets and boxes to EU countries. He’s always had a passion for décor and interior; thus began his journey of R&D and experimenting different materials and weavings to develop products.
With his business partner ELMY, they developed a line of decorative lanterns, made with rattan and/or bamboo.
In 2005, he realized that he had no hold on local market, as Myanmar is already fairly saturated with rattan furniture and accessories. Incorporating his love for all things hand-made, he weaved his way into outdoor furniture. Using High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) wicker, he again developed an outdoor collection of dining, bar, lounge to daybed and sun loungers as well as F&B clientele.
Myanmar has always had to rely on the neighbouring countries such as China and Thailand for outdoor furniture, but Classic Home became the first and only company in 2006-07 and still is to produce outdoor woven furniture in Myanmar. The outdoor line is now known locally as CHOF (Classic Home Outdoor Furniture).
In 2015, his eldest daughter, Thet Htar joined him in the family business. She started with assisting in sales, product development and factory operation. In 2017-18, another daughter joined (me!) and I’ll be telling you stories of our production mishaps and new collections on this little page.
Concluding, Classic Home has been in manufacturing for almost 22 years, birthing a baby outdoor brand, CHOF, along the way. My sister’s and my dreams are to scale up our production for export, open up 2 showrooms for local market and create a new product line within 5 years, counting down from the date we joined.
